These are used for the treatment of lines wrinkles and for augmenting the features of the face. There are many different types of product that can be used and the choice will depend on the characteristics of the area to be filled and the requirements of the individual patient.
Everyone gets facial lines and wrinkles at some point in their lives the cause being the breakdown of natural collagen and hyaluronan support layers in the dermis of the skin.
It is now possible, with the products available for us to replace the collagen and hyaluronan in the skin and in some cases even to stimulate new growth. Correction of the area is acheived in most cases by injecting the chosen product just under the surface of the skin to correct the problem area. With most of the products used an immediate result can be achieved but a settling down time is required. The procedure is not unduly painful but a topical or local aneasthetic make the procedure even easier. There maybe some discomfort discolouration and and swelling. Typically these responses are temporary and will disappear within a few days.
